Rare pair of painted banister-back side chairs, ash, Southern New England, possibly Connecticut shoreline, circa 1720-40. These are turner made chairs with unusual fully turned banisters and medial stretchers. The full banisters are carry-overs from the early carver chairs. The stretchers reflect the later Queen Anne period. Condition: Paint is 19th Century; missing a piece of crest on one chair. Ht. 45”
