PAINTED CHEST

Fine painted and decorated blanket chest, New York State, circa 1820. The method of decoration appears to be a wooden stamp, like a wood block, which was used to create both the border and the interior design. The background is sponge decorated. Condition: Hinges replaced. No other restoration. Dimensions: Ht. 21 ½”; W. 42”; D. 15 ¼”.
