New York Candlestand
-
Outstanding mahogany tilt-top candlestand with inlaid eagle, New York City, circa 1790. The twelve-sided mahogany top derives from the English gallery-top tables. The line inlay is typical of New York. The distinctive beautifully designed and executed pillar and legs are also associated with New York City, particularly the work of Thomas Burling, (fl. 1769-1797). Height: 28 ½"; Top 19" x 19".
