Fine pastel portrait of Rachel Fox Read of Boston (ca. 1790-1856) painted by William M. S. Doyle (1769-1828), signed and dated 1810. This portrait is early in Doyle's oeuvre and descended in the family of the sitter. Doyle was known primarily for his silhouettes and miniatures, but did pastel portraits as well.
