Fine portrait of a woman holding a fan, oil on canvas, New England, attributed to Daniel G. Lamont (1818-1883), circa 1850. The dark background projects this classical image forward. A late Federal house with pillars can be seen. The carved cameo denotes her status. Mounted on original poplar stretcher. Period frame. 27 1/2" x 21 1/2". (See Barbara Gordon Collection # 4-7.)
