WILLIAM O. GOLDING (1874-1943):
Colored pencil drawings on paper by the self-taught African American artist, William O. Golding, dated 1933. 9” x 11” This is one of approximately 60 drawings Golding produced while a patient at the Marine Hospital in Savannah, GA from 1932-39. These drawings were done from memory of his sea travels after being kidnapped at the age of 8. An exhibition of Golding’s work was held at the Telfair Museum of Art, March – May, 2000.Over half his drawings are owned by the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, GA.
