Outstanding carved, gilded, and painted wooden crest, typically found above a Torah ark, featuring two folk art inspired lions, Eastern Europe, probably Poland or Ukraine, late 18th/early 19th C. The use of lions to support the Tablet of the Law is a frequent and long-standing Jewish synagogue decoration. The lions appear as a symbol of power and authority.
