Daniel Webster's Andirons
Excellent pair of American steeple-top brass andirons, c. 1800, which belonged to Daniel Webster. Each andiron is engraved (in script): "Andirons Formerly The Property of Daniel Webster Bequeathed to Henry W. Taft By Martha E. Homer". Henry W. Taft (1859-1945) was the brother of President William Howard Taft and a successful NYC lawyer. Martha E. Homer (1845-1937) was the sister-in-law of Winslow Homer. Excellent as-found condition. Ht. 24 1/2"; D. 24 1/4".
